Resolved: I feel we were mislead on our contract with Neptune from the representative.

Update by user Oct 02, 2021

Company fixed the issue and I have been provided with partial refund.

Original review posted by user Sep 01, 2021
As part of our contract the representative asked if we wanted travel protection on our policies. He told us if the protection wasn't used we would get a full refund of the money paid for that part of the contract. On that I decided sure because if not used the money would be returned. Reading the contract completely showed that we were lied to. After 30 days there was no refund and it cost us over $1000 more.

User's recommendation: Don't believe anything your told by the sales person. Read all the small print before signing.

Problem with my mothers remains.

My mother and father signed up with Neptune to have their remains spread in the Marin headlands. My father decided to change and have his ashes interred in Los Angeles but forgot to include my mother in that change. Although we have power of attorney and were informed by mom that she wanted to be next to her husband, Neptune will not release her remains to us. They cite they are legally bound to spread her remains in the bay. They have had her remains for too many years. What can we do? Can they keep her remains forever in their basement? Chris Bowerman

Moving from Albuquerque, NM to Michigan's Upper Peninsula

I, too, had to buy the large box for an urn for my ashes! I am very concerned that my monthly monies are not being banked properly. I will have to check with Michigan Attorney General when I relocate to Michigan. California seems to be OK, but a friend's wife was left for weeks until being cremated.

Fraudulent business taking advantage of the elderly

My parents were over charged for funeral plan package. The business did none of the arrangements but she was charged for many things Neptune did not even attempt to do, Including the long wait time for cremation to be done. My father passed in March of 2021. She wants a refund and to return the $1,300.00 plastic box (urn) that was too big for the memorial wall placement at cemetery services provided by the Veterans Administration not Neptune though she was charged for that too!

User's recommendation: Do not be fooled by the “affordable standard plan” as it is pushed on customers so Neptune can add miscellaneous unnecessary items.

I want to spread the word on the misleading business dealings Neptune has done not only to my family but many others. Read the reviews through Better Business Bureau website before you decide who will manage your final arrangements. We are seeking legal action since we’re getting no where due to poor communication on their end.

Got ambulance chased while surfing

Surfing for info for pre-need as someone wants me to be their Successor Trustee. Website had links to what looked like helpful documents to help you understand process. Requirement to open the download was of course email, and also phone #. Within 12 hours I had someone call me - and calling me "honey" set the tone for the rest. I said "I didn't expect a callback so soon." He then claimed that they are "required" because of covid to call back immediately "I'm not an ambulance chaser BUT ..." and started in sales pitch. I told him I was just surfing, no immediate needs. He ratcheted up, kept going. At which point I terminated the call and saved his phone # as "Neptune Ambulance Chaser" Sad, because this company used to have a great reputation.

User's recommendation: If phone # is required to get PDF, go to another provider.

Cost given on the computer micro soft says it costs 1950 not true

On phone call the rep. gave me cost of 3507 including no family gathering and no scattering in San Francisco. When I read the answer on line stating the above amount she said #oh that's the internet for you# I suggested she talk with someone and get the correct information out. Called headquarters and had to leave a message, The whole point is I do not want to leave my daughter with a big bill she can't pay so if i do the 3507 and die before it is paid in 5 1/2 years she has to pay the remainder. I am 80 now.

User's recommendation: Have correct information out to public.

Forced to buy "retail" junk

I told the salesperson that I didn't want the "memory box" and she said that was part of the package and I HAD to buy it. I reluctantly agreed. I am still FURIOUS and when I saw the contract thing that I was forced to sign to get the cremation package, I had 30 days to return it. I am stuck with this tacky box that my family will NEVER use and I want out!!!!! I won't recommend this farce to anyone.Stay away!!

User's recommendation: Stay away!!!!

True review! We had the same complaint about the ugly oversized “urn” that we would never choose let alone agree to pay $1,300 for it

#2061948

We hate the box too! 1,300.00 for a plastic box that is too big and was never selected by my mother in the first place. We are attempting a refund and Neptune can have all their chintzy memorial items back!

TO LET EVERYONE THE WONDERFUL TREATMENT

My husband was in nursing home, under hospice care, I contacted Neptune because I knew I was going to need some preplanning. A gentleman named Craigh, came over and sat with me, answered all of my questions, Then dealing with the ladies (don't remember every name) they are so caring, sensitive to your pain. I would highly recommend Neptune, in fact, I am so impressed with them, that I plan to preplan my own passing, when the time comes. I just thought I was not make it through this, but I have all the help I need, (1) from my Father God (2) from the ladies at Neptune.

User's recommendation: This is the most horrible time in your life, lean on Neptune for all your help, and NOT like a lot of places that try to take advantage of your emotional feelings, and over sell you. Neptune, took care of me taking note of my financial situation.

Check them out before you buy

My grandson has terminal cancer and I am considering a Neptune pre-cremation contract. The posted complaint reviews are terrible! We live in Indiana and he will have an 18-our surgery on Jan 5th. in North Carolina (as per Mayo orders). What kind of service from Neptune Society can I expect. What do other users recommend?

Shop around! The business takes advantage of people by misleading them.

Fraudulent and overpriced to say the least. Read reviews from the better business bureau and you’ll find many customers were mislead.

Inconceivable in a time of grief

July 2010: my mom contracts for and full pays for her own cremation with Neptune Society Dec 21, 2017: mom passes. Neptune Society picks up her body. Jan 24, 2017: no body, no cremation, no return calls. WHERE IS MY MOM??? I was initially told that in order to pick up her cremains all 5 of her children needed to send in notarized documents (many pages). I can see that seeing how some fighting might ensue in some families. However a one page document would be sufficient. All documents were returned to them within 10 days. Then on Jan 8th I was told they lost one of my siblings notarized stuff due to an office move and they could not cremate mom without it?! Over the phone they took my sister’s verbal assurance that she signed it and agrees with me picking mom’s cremains up. WRONG! MOM SIGNED THE CONTRACT TO BE CREMATED AND DOES NOT NEED ANYONE ELSES PERMISSION TO BE CREMATED. In my paperwork of MANY pages there was one page with a slew of check boxes where you could agree to be in this or that program and be contacted by this or that group or organization. My page came to me ALREADY CHECKED yes on most of them. I called my “case worker” (FYI mom is not a case, find a better title) and she stated it was “standard procedure” to check the boxes for the client. I told her it was NEVER standard procedure to check yes for any customer without their consent and I do not wish any of them to be checked. OK she says. Just indicate that on the form. I scratch out all the checks, write “no to all” on the page and voila! I already got my JD Powers survey by email. SMH. Hey Neptune Society, did you sell my contact info too? So I called them FIVE DAYS ago and they said mom had not been cremated yet and someone would call me back “TODAY” to let me know why. Five days later.... I am getting dressed now. I will drive down there and demand to pick up my moms body, cremated or not. Thanks Neptune Society for helping to ease my grief. SMH

I suspect that bodies are not being cremated but are being used for "medical research." There's no reason for a delay in cremating a person who pre-paid for the service.

#1422915

To clarify: JD Power & Associates contact was one of the boxes Neptune Society checked for me which I unchecked and verbally told them not to share my info. I can now only assume they ignored my wishes on all of the check boxes.
